1 OPERATION :

FUJIFILM GFX system cameras have set new standards for portability and operation when it comes to large format cameras and GFX100S continues this modern-day legacy. Its high-resolution 102MP sensor is housed in a body that weighs just 900g (1.98lbs) and measures a remarkably compact 150x104x87mm (5.90×4.09×3.42in). It features a redesigned shutter unit, a five-axis in-body image stabilization system, and fits comfortably in-hand thanks to its contoured grip. At its size, it may provide an image-making experience similar to other full-frame cameras, but make no mistake, GFX100S produces images far more superior in quality.

Functionality

GFX100S has been designed to make the large format photography experience easier and more intuitive for both new and existing GFX system users. Featuring a PASM dial to give access to its main exposure functions. Handling is made more convenient thanks to a top-plate LCD that displays key function settings – even when the camera is switched off – while a redesigned Focus Lever and feather-touch shutter release provide the finishing touches to the camera’s image-making experience.

Mode Dial

New and existing GFX system users alike will feel no need to be daunted when stepping into the world of large format photography since GFX100S features a universally familiar PASM control dial. The dial also features six custom positions, which can be assigned to frequently used settings, ready to be switched between in an instant.
Switching from still to movie mode is also made incredibly simple by way of a lever that is located next to the mode dial. This makes it easy to switch functions effortlessly and keep creating.

Sub LCD monitor

Instantly check the status of key camera functions with the top-plate LCD monitor on GFX100S. The 1.8in black & white monitor is crystal clear and displays the all-important information, including shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitvity, and remaining frames. The display is also fully programmable, so you can choose what information you have to hand at all times.

Focus Stick (Focus Lever)

GFX100S features a newly designed Focus Lever, which is flatter and more comfortable to control. But it’s not only the shape of the lever that has been enhanced, the firmware has been upgraded making it easier to select the right focusing point.

Tilt LCD

Some of the greatest images are made when a camera is positioned at a dramatic or unusual angle. The rear 3.2in, 2.36 million dot LCD panel on GFX100S encourages you to explore different viewpoints with its 100% coverage and three tilting directions: 90° upward, 45° downward, and 60° to the right. Use this flexibility with touchscreen control to push your compositions to the next level.

Feather touch shutter

GFX100S may be designed for rugged environments, but it is definitely made for a delicate touch. Its feather-touch shutter release reacts to subtle movements, and responds instantaneously in either portrait or landscape orientations. For more precision and quicker response, switch to the electronic front curtain shutter to minimize shutter lag and get exactly the right moment with every frame.

Buttons/Menu Customization

Tailor GFX100S to your image-making style by using one of the six customizable settings on the PASM dial, reconfiguring the 16 functions in the Q (Quick) Menu, or by mapping your most regularly used functions to the selection of programmable function (Fn) buttons positioned around the camera body to keep settings just a simple touch away.

  Incredibly light, yet impressively durable, the camera body is made from magnesium alloy and designed to meet the demands of day to day use. It is also thicker by 1mm around the lens mount to provide additional rigidity and support, which is essential when using larger G Mount prime and zoom lenses.

  Weather resistant

  Thanks to a camera body that is sealed in 60 different places, GFX100S can easily shrug off the most challenging weather and environments. It can operate in temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F) and is both dust- and moisture-resistant.

EVF

GFX100S has a 3.69 million dot EVF, offering 100% coverage. The finder uses specially designed lens elements for a high-definition live view experience and includes a diopter to provide a more comfortable viewing experience.

G Mount

Engineered to keep pace with 100MP+ imaging sensors, G Mount lenses are optimized to provide a lifetime of service. With a short flange focal distance, which helps keep GFX system cameras compact, G Mount lenses are designed to prevent peripheral light falloff. When combined with a large CMOS imaging sensor, this approach results in stunning edge-to-edge sharpness.

Shutter Unit

Focal Plane Shutter

Designed to work in harmony with GFX100S, the camera’s redesigned shutter unit is 15% lighter than the one found in the original GFX100, but its smaller size doesn’t compromise its performance in any way. In fact, durability and performance is almost assured, since it’s guaranteed to reach over 150,000 actuations*1 over its lifetime.
Five shutter types are also available, including a silent electronic shutter, so it doesn’t matter if it’s at a quiet wedding or an ear-splitting concert, image makers everywhere can choose the option that makes the best of the conditions they are working with.

Shock Absorber

Ultra-high resolution images need all the help they can get when it comes to eliminating unintended vibrations, since even the slightest movement can be seen in the image’s finest details. This is why GFX100S’s shutter unit is equipped with a dedicated shock absorber. Not only does it provide a quicker shutter response to enhance performance, it also minimizes any hint of shutter shock, which means those perfect moments will always be within your grasp, vibration reduced.

Image Stabilization

GFX100S features a redesigned, powerful in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system that is 20% smaller and 10% lighter than the version found in the GFX100. Amazingly, despite this reduciton in size and weight, it is still able to provide up to six stops of five-axis stabilization, which dramatically broadens the possibilities for image-makers everywhere to confidently create handheld images in a multitude of circumstances and a variety of lighting conditions.

3 FOCUS :

Face/Eye Detection AF

GFX100S uses an advanced Face and Eye Detection autofocus algorithm to ensure portrait images are perfectly in focus, even when using wide apertures to create images with shallow depth-of-field.
For ultimate precision, use Eye Detecion AF and prioritize which eye to focus on, or use Face Detection AF in combination with GFX100S’s touchscreen or Focus Lever to select, track, and perfectly expose one face in a crowd of people.

Autofocus in the Dark

Combine GFX100S with GF80mmF1.7 R WR and achieve focus in light levels as low as -5.5EV through the camera’s phase detection autofocus pixels, which deliver fast and accurate AF performance reliably.

A revised focusing algorithm means GFX100S can easily stay focussed on a moving subject. Simply align the focusing point over the subject and wide/tracking mode will ensure subjects stay sharp as they move around the frame.

Focus Bracketing

Go beyond the capabilities of conventional aperture settings and get complete sharpness with GFX100S’s focus bracketing mode. Ideal for studio-based static subjects in consistent lighting, simply specifiy the nearest and furthest points you want in focus, then leave the camera to determine the number of frames and steps required.

4 MOVIE :

4K Movie / 10bit Color D

GFX100S’s large-format imaging sensor isn’t just limited to still imagery. Switched to movie mode, filmmakers can create naturally cinematic footage and record richly detailed 4K/30p movies with a shallow depth-of-field, wide tonal gradation, and impressive ISO sensitivity in either 10-bit F-log or 12-bit ProRes RAW. This is all possible thanks to X-Processor 4, which also facilitates a bit rate of up to 400 Mbps, the commonly used 17:9 aspect ratio, and support for common compression codecs, like H.265 and H.264.

The full selection of all 19 Film Simulation modes are also available as well, including ETERNA, which digitally replicates Fujifilm’s legendary cine film.

Movie Recording Formats

Using GFX100S, filmmakers have the rare opportunity of being able to record 4K footage, at 16:9 and 17:9 aspect ratios, using the full width of its large format imaging sensor, which results in an imaging surface that is larger than many of the large format cinema cameras available today. This means films created with GFX100S will naturally look like they were made for the big screen, at a fraction of the budget.

Support For F-Log and HLG

GFX100S is capable of recording in 10-bit F-Log or Hybrid Gamma Log (HLG), a REC.2100 supported standard. Compared to using commonly available compression codecs, like H.264, recording footage in F-Log or HLG gives filmmakers much more flexibility in post-production as footage is brought through the color grading process and adjustments are made to luminance, color saturation, or any number of other image attributes.

SD and HDMI Output

4K/30p 10-bit output is possible whether you’re recording straight to an SD card or via GFX100S’s HDMI port. The camera’s X-Processor 4 imaging engine records 4:2:0 10-bit data to an SD card at up to 400 Mbps. *1 When H.265 codec is selected and 4:2:2 10-bit through the HDMI port, All-Intra and Long-GOP codecs are also available *2
Thanks to its robust imaging processor, GFX100S can also display footage on its LCD and an external monitor, while feeding uncompressed data straight to a recorder.

RAW Recording

For maximum flexibility with image-based adjustments and color grading option, GFX100S can also record 4K/30P footage in 12-bit RAW, via HDMI, directly to an Atomos Ninja V Monitor Recorder to be recorded as Apple ProRes RAW files. This allows for all decisions about the image to be made after production, in post, free from in-camera processing.
Simultaneous output of RAW footage and footage in F-Log or Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) with a Film Simulation mode applied is also possible.

5 WORKFLOW :

External Connectivity

GFX100S has a USB-C port for high-speed image transfer, a micro-HDMI port to connect to an external monitor, plus a microphone input, headphone jack, and remote shutter release connection. The camera can also be powered and charged via the USB-C port.
